Melissa Zimmerman — Content Strategy & Writing

The strategy and content behind healthier, safer, more connected communities.

I'm Melissa Zimmerman, a content strategist and writer with nearly 15 years of experience working at the intersection of health, safety, and community wellbeing. I work with mission-driven organizations and county, state, and federal agency partners to produce content that impacts the people their programs are designed to serve.

I'm a co-founder of the Community Alliance of Resources Education and Support (CARES Connects), a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit improving community access to support services.

Your program is only as effective as the people it reaches.

Somewhere between your organization's mission and the people you serve, something gets lost.

I'm here to help you connect.

I diagnose where your communication is breaking down, build the strategy to fix it, and create content that connects with the people you're seeking to reach. The result is content that reaches your audience, holds their attention, and moves them to act.

The worlds I work in

Health, safety, financial security, and community wellness are interconnected systems that determine whether people and families are protected, informed, and able to get the help they need. I've spent nearly 15 years building deep expertise across all of them.

Natural health, women's health, supplements and functional nutrition, health technology, elder care and wellness

Safety and prevention

Child abuse prevention, elder abuse prevention, human trafficking prevention, substance use and opioid diversion prevention

Strategy first. Content second.

Your impact starts with your audience, your goals, and the distance between what your organization knows and what the people you serve need to understand. Most content problems are strategy problems. I solve both.

Meet Melissa

I'm a Northern California-based content strategist and writer specializing in health, safety, and community wellbeing. My work spans county, state, and federal agency partners, mission-driven nonprofits, compliance training organizations, and community development projects across California and beyond.

I founded the Community Alliance of Resources Education and Support (CARES Connects), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on improving community access to support services in the Sacramento region. I’m building in the nonprofit space because I kept seeing the same problem in my professional work: the gap between organizations with real resources and communities that can’t fully find or access them. CARES Connects is my answer to that problem.

The through-line across all of my work is connection: to community, to the people organizations are trying to reach, and to work that actually matters.

If you work in health, safety, prevention, or community wellbeing and your content isn't connecting the way it should, I'd like to talk.
